So, here we are! Hello, and welcome, and thank you for coming along for the ride! In beginning this blog, I want to kick it off by outlining my goals for writing and sharing my reflections here. First, I would like to think that there might be a community of readers and teachers and learners out there who are seeking a place where they just might feel more understood; perhaps this small corner of the world wide web might offer some comfort, or validation, or affirmation, that you are not alone in how you feel. Second, I am always encouraging my students to be proud of who they are and to be brave enough to stay true to that person. It takes a different kind of courage to allow the world to see our true selves. So, I am, in turn, challenging myself to be brave enough to put some of my own reflections, thoughts, and writing out into the vast space that lies behind this screen. Third, I want to hold myself accountable for remaining intentional about being an advocate for underrepresented and marginalized communities; with each entry, I hope that it will help me to reflect on my own practices and beliefs, as well as inspire others to self-reflect and challenge their own ways of seeing the world around them and their place in it. Perhaps with more thoughtful conversations, more change might also be within reach. Dreaming about how to right so many things in this world can feel overwhelming and impossible. But sitting down to write down a few thoughts, questions, and dreams seems a whole lot more manageable to me.
"Writing" the world again...
